Gmunden Resort Information
Gmunden is in the Salzkammergut region of Austria, east of Salzburg - The Sound of Music country! There are a number of lakes in the Salzkammergut region, Gmunden is on the north edge of Traunsee. The main north-south road to Bad Ischl, passes along the west side of the lake and passes through Gmunden. There are several villages around the lake - the main ones being Altmünster, just a few km to the south of Gmunden, and Traunkirchen and Ebensee to the south of Altmünster.

There are a number of shops, cafes, restaurants and hotels situated around the lakeside where there are lots of water activities.
Walking / Hiking in the Gmunden Area
There are about 100 km of paths in the Gmunden area and several hundred in the Traunsee region. They range from level walks around the lake to mountain paths up to the summits of the surrounding mountains. You can explore the Grünberg and Traustein areas. Take a bus or train to Ebensee and take the gondola to the summit of Feuerkogel.
The Tourist Office may offer free led walks.
Skiing in the Gmunden Area
There is not a lot of downhill, but the Feuerkogel area near Ebensee has some lifts and huts / restaurants.

Airports (Flughafen)
The nearest airport to Gmunden is Salzburg which is about 35 km - 1 hour 10 minutes away.
Other airports are:
Rail Stations (Bahnhof) and Ferries
Trains are run by Austrian Railways ÖBB. There is a station in Gmunden.
Ferries run from several other places around the lake (Traunsee).

Cable Cars
There is a cable gondola in Gmunden that runs in the summer.
There is a cable gondola in Ebensee that runs most of the year.
