Salzburg Resort Information
Salzburg is next to the border, with Germany to the west and the Salzkammergut region to the east. The Salzach river flows south - north through Salzburg. There are lots of things to do in Salzburg. Wolfgang Amadaeus Mozart was born in Salzburg and there are lots of events about his life and music. The old part of Salzburg (Altstadt) is designated a world heritage site by UNESCO and has a pedestrian zone where you can walk around the narrow streets with buildings from all periods, shops, museums. Hohensalzburg Fortress, south of the Altstadt, is on the top of Mönchsberg (520m) where you get a good view of the city.
Salzburg is “The Sound of Music” country!

Walking / Hiking in the Salzburg Area
There is not a lot of mountain walking in Salzburg but there are lots of walks around the city. There are a lots of walks in the surrounding area. A good choice for a variety of walks is to the east of Salzburg in the Salzkammergut region where there are a number of lakes, one of the largest being Wolfgangsee (or Abersee).
The Tourist Office may offer free led walks.
