Ebensee Resort Information

Ebensee am Traunsee, Oberösterreich is in the Salzkammergut region of Austria, east of Salzburg - The Sound of Music country!  There are a number of lakes in the Salzkammergut region, Ebensee is on the southern end of Traunsee. The main north-south road to Bad Ischl, passes along the east side of the village . There are several villages around the lake - the main ones being Traunkirchen just a few km to the north of Ebensee, and Altmünster and Gmunden on the north east / north  side of the lake.

There are a number of shops, cafes, restaurants and hotels situated around the lakeside where there are lots of water activities.

Walking / Hiking in the Ebensee Area

There are several hundred km of walks in the Traunsee region. They range from level walks around the lake to mountain paths up to the summits of the surrounding mountains. You can take a bus or walk to Gmunden and then explore the Grünberg and Traustein areas. From Ebensee you can walk up to and take the gondola to the summit of Feuerkogel.

The Tourist Office may offer free led walks.

Skiing in the Ebensee Area

There is not a lot of downhill, but the Feuerkogel area near Ebensee has some lifts and huts / restaurants.

Airports (Flughafen)

The nearest airport to Ebensee is Salzburg which is about 40 km - 1 hour 10 minutes away.
Other airports are:

• Innsbruck: 230 km - 2h 10 mins
• Munich: 180 km - 1h 45 mins

Rail Stations (Bahnhof) and Ferries

Trains are run by Austrian Railways ÖBB. There is a station in Ebensee near the lake.

Ferries run from several other places around the lake (Traunsee).

Cable Cars near Ebensee

There is a cable gondola just outside Ebensee that runs most of the year to the summit of Feuerkogel (1592m).

Feuerkogel Seilbahn

On the north east side of the lake there is a cable gondola in Gmunden that runs in summer to the summit of Grünberg (984m).
