Kaprun, Austria is a village south-west of Salzburg and south-east of Kitzbühel and about 5km west of Bruck. It forms a hiking / ski region with Zell am See which is about 8km north-east of Kaprun. The main road (168) passes north of Kaprun from Zell am See and goes west along the Pingau valley to Krimml and Mayrhofen.
Walking / Hiking in the Kaprun Area
In Kaprun there are hundreds of km of paths. The Kitzsteinhorn offers some good walks as well as the reservoir area at the end of the valley.

Skiing in the Kaprun Area
In Kaprun all year skiing is available on the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier. Winter skiing is also available in Zell am See.

Airports near to Kaprun (Flughafen)
The nearest airport to Kaprun is Salzburg.
Rail Stations (Bahnhof)
There is a main train station in Zell am See on the edge of the town next to the lake. The main line runs north to Saalfelden then west to Kitzbühel & Innsbruck, and south to Bruck, Bischofshofen then north to Salzburg.
The Pinzgauer Lokalbahn (PLB) (Krimmlerbahn or PinzgauBahn) runs west from Zell am See along the Pingau valley to Mittersill. From Mittersill you can catch a bus to the Krimml waterfalls. There are a number of steam trains. In 2002, and maybe a bit longer, it continued from Mittersill to Krimml so check as it may have re-opened!

There are some bus routes. There is a more extensive network available from Zell am See.

Cable Cars - Chair Lifts
There are a number of cable cars and chair lifts in Kaprun. The main one is south of Kaprun and runs up to the Zeferetkopf (2446 m) and Kitzsteinhorn (3027m) with all year skiing on the Glacier.
